The aim of this assignment is for you to develop scientific reading, writing, and presentation
skills. You will practice reading widely across scientific literature to address a central
question in evolutionary biology. You will apply principles and theories of evolution from
class to critically explore the current knowledge and the importance of your topic.
Specifically, you will pose a central question and attempt to answer that question from
multiple angles. You will review historically influential and recent literature to collect data
and information on your topic. You will synthesize this information into a cutting–edge review
that both addresses your question and outlines its broad importance to science and society.
You must address the (i.) the current state of the field, research, and technology, (ii.)
existing limitations in our knowledge and understanding, (iii.) the future of the field, and (iv.)
scientific and societal importance.
