For this writing assignment, first start by reading these two articles: a Time retrospective https://time.com/5255663/chernobyl-disaster-book-anniversary/and a study on public opinion ( I attached the file below) Actions immediately following the accident. In class, we discussed a brief overview of what caused the Chernobyl accident and a few details as to the response towards it. It’s an event still discussed to this day. In this writing, I want you to explore how public opinion has shifted over time regarding nuclear power and specifically towards Chernobyl. I would also like you to find one additional source to consider, though this doesn’t have to be academic. I would like this source to be an article or a conversation with a person who was alive and remembers the event. How does your source refer to the accident? Was there a shift in the opinion towards nuclear power because of the accident? Your writing should include the following points: 1. How has public opinion of nuclear power shifted over the last four decades? 2. How has public opinion of the Chernobyl accident shifted since the initial event? 3. From your perspective, what are the lessons we should be taking forward from Chernobyl? Your writing should be somewhere between 1 and 2 pages long and should cite all three (or more if desired) of your sources.

General Standards for Papers

Papers should be in a standard 12-point font (e.g. Times New Roman or Cambria), with 1” x 1.25” margins, and double–spaced. Pages must be numbered and labeled according to MLA conventions. The header (top left-hand side of the first page) should include your name, the date, the course, and the name of your instructor.

I will be taking grammar, spelling, and structure into account—good ideas cannot be communicated with poor form. If the grammar or structure in a paper is severely flawed in such a way that your thesis and arguments cannot be conveyed, or the word count is below the minimum standard, I reserve the right to fail the paper. I encourage students who find essay writing challenging to first submit their work to TJC Tutoring Services (903-510-2577). Their student tutors usually get comments back to you within 24 weekday hours.

Directions

Papers should thoroughly address one of the options below in a double-spaced 1-1.5 page essay (minimum 250 words in the body text). Papers of insufficient length will receive a penalty up to a possible grade of zero. Submit your completed paper on ONE of the following options here by attaching a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file that follows the standards for papers listed at the link below.

FRANCE – Essay 7 Options

Option 1 (Art History) The Medieval Cathedral: describe the origins, significance, and social functions of cathedrals in Medieval Europe.

Option 2 (Religion) The Crusades: describe the historical context, advent, and consequences of the Crusades.

Option 3 (Literature) The Summa: describe the importance and central claims of St. Thomas Aquinas’ work, the Summa Theologica.

Outside research is not required for our seven short essays, but if you use sources (including the textbook) be sure to cite them at each sentence — both for direct quotes and when used indirectly. Failure to do so will result in a zero for plagiarism and a possible “F” for the course
