1. In studying the evolution of humans into anatomically-modern people, archaeologists and paleoanthropologists examine the physical characteristics of skeletal material. Which characteristics separate the genus Homo from earlier Australopithecines? Do these characteristics justify the separation of these specimens into different genus? Why or why not? What about the individual species within Homo? What characteristics differentiate these separate species (e.g. H. habilis versus H. neanderthalensis)?
