2) COVID-19 and your states (Texas & CA): The pandemic forced many courthouses to transition to video court appearances and video trials. Some states simply delayed trials until they could meet in person whenever possible. Other states chose to use video trials as a primary method, particularly where bench trials were held. Briefly search your states and summarize whether your states are currently holding in person vs. video trials. By now, most are likely back to in person proceedings, but if they are still holding video trials (bench and/or jury trials) indicate any protocols/circumstances associated. Moreover, based on what you find during your research as to the reasons surrounding holding in-person vs. video trials vs. suspending trials until a later date, discuss a few of the pros and cons of holding in-person vs. video trials vs. suspending trials until a late altogether. (Think of this in terms of practicality and logistics for court staff, lawyers, prosecutors, witnesses/victims, expert witnesses, jury members, defendants etc.).
