In a position paper, you take a firm stance on a controversial issue and argue for or against it. By examining both sides of the issue and making a value judgment of which side is better or more desirable than others, you can help mobilize others with the same beliefs into action, gather support, or persuade those on the metaphorical fence to join your side.
In this essay, you will write 4-5 pages about the topic of your choice, using information from no fewer than 4 reputable sources, cited in MLA, 8th edition. You will also be using the information you used for the prewriting worksheet.

This paper will also be used to assess General Education skills. You do not need to do anything special for the assignment, merely write a paper that fits the criteria of the assignment, but, in the spirit of transparency, the skills we will be assessing are below.
General Education skills assessment:
Students will write a multi-paragraph text that establishes a position on a topic, argues in favor of the position,
and considers the strengths and weaknesses of the position.
Students must use at least one credible source and apply appropriate citation conventions in either MLA or APA
format.
Students will employ revision and editing strategies to produce a text with appropriate syntax, grammar,
punctuation, and spelling. The text should be “final draft” quality.
