There will be 2 different submissons for this. First is going to be a site to set up a free webpage with URL and simply adding a text a pictures to front page. I will have to submit this in a fews days. Then the rest of the project isn’t due for a couple weeks. Basically for that you will pick an audience to write to and write all about EHR.  I will add videos and reading texts for reference.

EHR Meaningful Use Course Project The EHR course project objective is to creatively show strong evidence that you have mastered the course learning outcomes by applying meaningful use of EHR systems for a selected audience. In summary, you create a web site that helps your selected audience learn about EHRs and their meaningfully use. As you develop this to help explain the course content to others, you also better learn yourself. As you create your web site, initially think about writing a paper to develop content. Then, go a step further to place the content onto a web site. The grading focuses primarily on evidenced-based content. The web site is simply the frame to the picture you create – a place to put your work. The project content includes the meaningful use of EHR systems for your chosen audience. Specific topic areas include: the significance of the HITECH legislation for your audience, and the meaningful use of specific EHR applications and standards. Overall this project is worth a third of the course grade. What if I have never created a web site before? The focus here is not technical as today’s web-building tools are very similar to creating a PowerPoint presentation. We work through and show the process during live chat where you can see that a basic web site can be created in just a few minutes. You do not need to be a programmer or know html. You simply need to write the text, design what goes on what tabs, add a few photos, or possibly a video link, and of course include references for your information sources. Who do I create this for? Ideally, you create this for someone besides yourself and the instructor. Meaningful use of technology and informatics is all about value created for someone. If you are working in healthcare today, you could develop this for your current colleagues/employer. If you are interested in career growth or getting started in the field, this could be something you share with a future employer. Examples of a selected audience may be general and broad such as for hospitals or the healthcare consumer. Alternatively, you can focus on a more specific area such as EHR for small private medical offices, long term care, or specialty clinics/departments such as chiropractors, cardiologists, dentists, etc. Given the growth in patient engagement, the audience could also be a specific group of health care consumers such as seniors. Why is this relevant and important? Just about everyone in the healthcare ecosystem is learning something about or trying to effectively use EHR system in one way or another. Putting the complex puzzle pieces of EHRs together becomes more complex the more you learn. There is a strong need for people who can help make this all more understandable and valuable to stakeholder groups to help us create a learning healthcare system. As we do this well, EHRs can help us learn versus us all scrambling to figure out EHR systems. What about grading – what do I need to do here to be successful? 1) Get started – “This journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”-Lao Tzu Since getting started is sometimes the hardest part, you earn the first 5 points in week one just for creating a home page with a few words and an image and have created a functional URL web site link that you can place into a dropbox. 2) Go further with a little coaching –“ I like a teacher who gives you something to take home to think about besides homework.” Lily Tomlin Faculty are here to coach you and help you succeed. However, if we do not see anything until the end of the course, we are not given the opportunity to share ideas, coach you, and help you succeed. After getting off to a great start, creating a draft by week 3 earns you another 5 points. Students who complete a draft in week 3, review faculty comments and act on them have historically done much better with a final grade. 3) Finish – “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” Thomas A. Edison Send your web site address (URL) to the dropbox specified in weeks 1, 3, and 4. See the grading rubric below for the final project. Additionally, for university assessment and auditing purposes, you also agree to leave your web site accessible and not remove or edit it after course completion. Course Learning Outcome Exemplary Proficient Developing Total Possible Points Step 1 Home page Due end of week 1 Create web site address and initial draft content on home page Web site link works, initial page has text and images Web site works In progress yet not operational 5 Step 2 Draft Due end of week 3 Develop draft Uses articulate and effective communication strategies to demonstrate EHR meaningful use to identified audience Uses communication strategies to demonstrate EHR meaningful use to identified audience Lacks effective communication strategies to demonstrate the EHR meaningful use to identified audience 5 Step 3 Final Due the end of week 4 Final project with the See below See below See below 23 Points Total 33 points 1. Overall and communicati ons -Utilize effective communication strategies to demonstrate the value of electronic patient care systems to support Meaningful Use objectives Strong student voice, EHR impact, well referenced and a clear ‘wow” factor. Shows strong and engaging evidence of the ability to communicate EHR Meaningful Use Course Learning Outcomes to the selected audience Student voice, EHR impact, referenced yet not a clear ‘wow” factor. Shows evidence of the ability to communicate EHR Meaningful Use Course Learning Outcomes Lacking a clear student voice, EHR impact, well referenced or a clear ‘wow” factor. Lacks evidence of the ability to communicate EHR Meaningful Use Course Learning Outcomes 5 Total points 33 A few additional helpful hints to getting an A on the EHR Course project from my point of VIEW: 1) Voice – Overall, hear your own personal voice and not others as you read your content. 2) Impact – Express the impact of technology on the lives of people or populations as this is the core value of EHRs and informatics in action 3) Evidence – Confidently substantiate opinions with references/evidence. 4) Wow – Say to yourself that this work has a “wow” factor – there is something about it that you really want to share with others so the interest and excitement naturally come through. Write content as you are publishing in a professional journal to a wide audience. In summary, the overall to this course exemplified in this project is see one, do one, teach one.
