We touched briefly in the lecture on the importance of judicial independence in the lecture, but it is an important topic that has become a cornerstone of how we define democracies. This fact is somewhat ironic due to the way that judges are often institutionally separated from politics and are notably often not elected positions. In part it has to do with the belief in limited government and the protection of rights, but there are also more complex answer. Here I would ask you to think about and explore this reasoning.
